The auction was held at the impressive X-Bionics Sphere equestrian complex in Šamorín, supported by a dedicated and professional organizing team. This was their second international indoor event of the new season, with classes running from early morning until midnight.
One of the highlights was the World Cup qualifier on Saturday evening, won by the talented 22-year-old Sara Vingralkova from the Czech Republic. Immediately after her victory, she attended the auction and secured two embryos for her future, including a Comme il Faut x Calvaro from the valuable Roosakker family. This unborn foal was highly sought after, as it is a half-sibling to the 1.70m Grand Prix mare Zarkava Hero, driving the price up to 40,000 euros.
A client from Slovenia, whose ‘Flanders foal purchase’ had participated in the final for five-year-old showjumping horses that morning, placed the other winning bid of 40,000 euros for another highly anticipated embryo.
This was a Colestus out of the 1.65m Grand Prix mare Rebeca LS (Rebozo LS), who is also the dam of the 1.65m Grand Prix horse Careca LS Elite.
“We’re extremely pleased with how the auction went,” said Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts. “This market has potential and room for growth. We’re excited to return to Šamorín next year.” Show organizer Robert Pal shared the positive sentiment: “Auctions are new to this country and some people may have been cautious with their bids, but I could see they enjoyed the evening and stayed until the end. That’s a promising sign.”
In the first half of the auction, online bidders were particularly active, but as the evening progressed, the in-person audience grew enthusiastic and began placing successful bids on one embryo after another. Sales were made on-site to Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria and the Netherlands. Online buyers hailed from the United States, Switzerland, England, Ireland, Belgium and Sweden.
The third-highest bid was 28,000 euros for a Cardento x Baloubet du Rouet embryo, a full sibling to Carrera VDL (1.60m GP). The same British stable purchased two additional embryos, including the Zineday x Echo van ‘t Spieveld for 26,000 euros.
Flanders Foal Auction will kick off the new year with its 8th embryo auction in the United Arab Emirates. This auction is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th, during the international Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi.
