With the upcoming Olympic Games in mind, Flanders Foal Auction has curated a collection with an Olympic flair for its upcoming auction on Saturday, August 10. Several foals have connections to showjumping horses competing in Paris, mostly through their sires, but there are also ties on the dam’s side.

This year’s fourth Flanders foal collection consists of 38 foals, which will be auctioned during the four-star show at Sentower Park in Opglabbeek. “It’s a very strong collection. It’s a large group, too, but we couldn’t decide which foals to leave out. They all have something special,” say Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts.

The 38 foals are sired by 21 different stallions. Olympic stars Emerald van ’t Ruytershof and Cornet Obolensky each have five foals in the auction. Chacco Blue, who competed in the London Olympics, is represented by four offspring. Olympic debutant Ermitage Kalone has three foals in the collection, all from prominent bloodlines, those of Itot du Chateau, Funky Music and Narcotique de Muze II. There are also two foals related to the ‘Paris stallions’ Quel Homme de Hus and Uricas vd Kattevennen: Unstoppable SL (Quel Homme de Hus) out of the half-sister of the 1.60m Grand Prix horses Sterrehof’s Voltaire and Balou Z, and Baptiste van ’t Roth (Uricas vd Kattevennen) out of the half-sister of powerhouse Calimero van ’t Roth (1.60m GP with Jos Lansink).

Medal contender Dubai du Cedre has a niece in the auction: Urla Dubai (Cornet Obolensky x Kannan). The auction’s final lot is a three-quarter sister of Legacy, who will be competing in the French capital with Daniel Coyle after winning the World Cup events in Leipzig and Amsterdam, as well as the Nations Cup in Ocala.

Other notable highlights include:
• 8 foals come from a mare that jumped 1.50m or higher
• 9 foals have a granddam that jumped 1.50m or higher
• 11 foals come from a mare that has already produced a horse that jumped 1.50m or 1.60m
• 32 foals have a granddam that has already produced horses that jumped 1.50m or 1.60m
• There are a remarkably high number of interestingly bred filly foals in this collection
