Flanders Foal Auction introduces embryos in Slovakia

Belgian auction house Flanders Foal Auction continues to explore new locations. The upcoming Flanders Embryo Auction will take place on Saturday, November 2, in Šamorín. After two years of hosting autumn auctions in Italy, the team is now heading to Slovakia. “It’s exciting once again. Our drive is to meet new clients you wouldn’t encounter if you stay in Belgium,” explain Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts.
Flanders Foal Auction has held auctions in various countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, the USA, Norway, Ireland, England, Italy, Germany and the UAE. “When we first brought a top collection of embryos to the Emirates, many people raised their eyebrows. Now, in January, we will hold our eighth edition there. It’s something to look forward to, just like the auction in Šamorín.”

The auction will be held at the renowned sports venue X-Bionic Sphere, which offers professional conditions for 27 Olympic sport disciplines. During the auction weekend, an international CSI3* showjumping, ‘Riders and Dreams,’ will take place. “On Saturday, November 2, there will be an outdoor World Cup qualifier, followed by the embryo auction indoors at the VIP area at 8:00 p.m. We are curious to see what it brings with riders from there and visitors from neighboring countries like Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Croatia. Interest in Flanders foals and embryos is growing significantly.”

Affordable prices for all
The collection features 25 embryos with prices accessible to a wide range of buyers, according to Van Puymbroeck and Lenaerts. “We are realistic and present a collection that is ready to sell. We don’t expect extreme prices, but we have secured some exceptional pedigrees.”
Statistics
Out of the 25 embryos, seven are bred out of sport mares. Nine have granddams who were successful jumpers at high level (seven of them even performed at 1.60m level). Ten embryos come from dams that have already gave a 1.50/1.60m Grand Prix horse. Moreover, 23 of the 25 embryos have a granddam that gave a 1.50m/1.60m horse. “Another noteworthy fact: The granddams in this collection have collectively produced 72 showjumping horses at 1.50m level and higher!”
Ermitage Kalone leads the lineup with three embryos, followed by Heartbreaker, Emerald, United Touch and Cornet Obolensky, each with two embryos.
Special pedigrees
Among the highlights is a Colestus x Rebozo LS embryo. Dam Rebeca LS won multiple 1.60m Grand Prix’s with Edward Levy and even jumped at 1.65m level. She also gave the 1.65m Grand Prix horse Careca LS Elite (recent winner of the LGCT Grand Prix of Valkenswaard with Jérôme Guery) and is a half-sister to Out of the Blue SCF (1.65m GP with Shane Sweetnam) and two other 1.50m level showjumping horses.

Another remarkable pedigree is the Zineday x Echo van ’t Spieveld out of the famous Roosakker family. The ten-year-old Olympic horse Zineday (1.70m GP with Philipp Weishaupt) was recently sold for a record price to Eve Jobs. Though he covered a few mares in the past without success and was later gelded for sport, a single straw of semen was collected at the time of gelding. It was used for the first time this year, making the upcoming 2025 foal the first offspring of showjumping phenomenon Zineday, with few others likely to follow.
